Dental insurance comes in handy when you need dental treatment. However, sometimes, it can be challenging to get insurance to cover procedures you might want or need. So, is cosmetic dentistry covered by insurance? Cosmetic dentistry in Tampa entails any procedure that enhances or improves the appearance of your smile. Therefore, if you’re unhappy with your smile and teeth, experts at Dalton Dental can help work with you to find the best solution.

At Dalton Dental, we offer a range of cosmetic dental treatments to eliminate imperfections in your teeth. Our skilled cosmetic dentist, Dr. Dalton, can give your smile a whole new, pretty look to flaunt. But will it be covered by your insurance? And if not, is there an alternative? Read on to learn more.

What Does Dental Insurance Cover?

In most cases, many dental insurance plans focus on helping you afford medically necessary procedures for your long-term oral health and well-being. This may include restorative and preventive dental health procedures such as:

  • Preventive services such as x-rays, cleaning, and exams.
  • Essential services such as fillings, non-surgical extractions, and root canals
  • Major restorative services such as crowns, bridges, and dentures

Unfortunately, dental insurance doesn’t cover cosmetic dentistry. This is because dental insurance companies consider cosmetic dentistry as an elective.

However, there are many situations in which cosmetic dentistry procedures are medically necessary.

If you were involved in an accident, for example, and experienced trauma to your teeth, your dental insurance could cover the procedure. Therefore, your dental insurance may cover cosmetic procedures, such as veneers, if they’re medically necessary.

How Will I Know If My Cosmetic Dentistry Will Be Covered?

While your insurance may almost never cover cosmetic dentistry procedures, some procedures can have added benefits to your oral health and can also be considered preventative or restorative. Therefore, your dental insurance plan may cover a portion of the costs. Some of these situations may include:

  • Dental implants to replace missing teeth
  • Crowns or veneers to cover up the visible surface of damaged, diseased, or broken teeth
  • Orthodontia to correct shifting teeth

These procedures not only help improve the appearance of your smile but also restore your oral health. Luckily, it’s quite common for dental cosmetic procedures to have therapeutic or preventive benefits on top of the cosmetic benefits. When you visit our offices, Dr. Dalton will first perform a comprehensive dental exam and create a customized plan that meets your needs. We will then prepare all the necessary forms and do our best to help you maximize your dental plan.

What If I Need Cosmetic Dentistry and Don’t Have Insurance?

A simple smile makeover can be transformative. You’ll look good, build trust, connect better with others, and have positive interactions. Therefore, don’t pass up on a necessary cosmetic dentistry procedure just because you think you don’t have insurance or your plan might not cover it.

We offer dental membership plans to ensure you get the smile of your dreams without worrying about the costs. Our friendly team is happy to work with you and help you come up with a plan so you can maintain strong, healthy teeth.

No Insurance? No Problem! Contact Dalton Dental!

What Does Cosmetic Dentistry Mean?

Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry that aims at improving dental appearance. It includes several procedures, with common options such as fillings, veneers, dental bonding, and more. Cosmetic dentistry differs from restorative dentistry treatment, which focuses on improving the functionality of your teeth rather than on improving dental aesthetics.

Types of Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

There are various types of cosmetic dentistry procedures. Each option treats specific dental issues, takes varying timelines to be completed, and achieves unique results. Here’s a breakdown of some cosmetic dentistry procedures you can pursue:

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening involves various procedures to make the teeth appear whiter and brighter. This includes bleaching, sanding down stains, use of special toothpaste, and ultraviolet light therapy. It’s best to consult your dentist about which whitening option will help you achieve your aesthetic needs.

Implants

This is an intensive cosmetic dentistry procedure where the dentist attaches crews to the jaw to support an implant inserted into the bone socket of a missing tooth. Over time, the implant fuses to jaw bone and tissues, permanently securing it and ensuring it blends with the surrounding teeth.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear removable dental brace used to align crooked teeth. The process uses a perfectly engineered plastic form of dental braces custom to your dental formula and appearance.

Gum Grafting

Gum grafting is a cosmetic procedure for treating gum recession or thinning gums. Your cosmetic dentist would recommend gum grafting to cover exposed teeth caused by receding gum by adding tissues from the palate and covering the affected area.

Gum Lift

A gum lift is a cosmetic procedure used to remove excess gum tissues from an excessive gingival display or an uneven gum line to create a uniform smile.

Oral Health and Other Benefits

Cosmetic dentistry can help you improve your oral health in various ways. Some of these ways include:

Improving Your Bite

Anyone with a misaligned bite tends to favor one side of the mouth and use the other to chew or bite. This can cause detrimental wear on the favored side. However, by fixing this with cosmetic dentistry procedures like veneers and Invisalign, you can improve your bite and chew and maintain even pressure on both sides of your mouth.

Creating Stronger Teeth

Getting a crown to treat cracked or chipped teeth strengthens them and prevents further breakage. This also prevents bacteria from accessing your damaged teeth and causing infections.

Fix Misalignment-Related Issues

An extensive underbite or overbite can cause many oral problems like grinding teeth, tooth decay, and severe headaches. However, cosmetic dentistry procedures like Invisalign help align your teeth and eliminate the pain.

Prevent Gum Disease and Tooth Decay

Crooked teeth are difficult to clean, especially if bunched too close together. This may cause tooth decay. Therefore, cosmetic procedures like Invisalign can significantly save you from oral diseases associated with failure to brush your teeth.

A Better Smile For You

Cosmetic dentistry undoubtedly offers many more benefits to your oral health besides improving your dental appearance. It’s much easier to achieve these benefits with the help of a reputable cosmetic dentist. Dr. Hillary Dalton brings loads of experience in cosmetics and family dentistry, backed by multiple awards and recognitions over the last fifteen years. With a dedication to delivering exceptional cosmetic treatment, you can rest assured that the best dental services in Tampa, FL, and its surroundings. Contact us today to schedule your consultation.

Investing in professional teeth whitening is an absolute must if you want to elevate your smile game and boost your confidence. The office of Dalton Dental in Tampa, FL, offers professional teeth whitening. It’s non-invasive, quick, safe, and can also help you protect your teeth from gum diseases and cavities. Continue reading to learn more about professional teeth whitening and its excellent benefits.

Causes of Teeth Discoloration

There are two different categories of discoloration: intrinsic (inside the tooth) and extrinsic (outside of the tooth) discoloration. Intrinsic discoloration refers to a discoloration that affects the inner layer of a tooth or the dentin. Even though the dentin lies beneath the enamel, it can darken and discolor the entire tooth.

Extrinsic discoloration is more superficial since only the outer layer of the tooth experiences any discoloration. This kind of discoloration usually occurs on the enamel of your teeth.

Each category of teeth discoloration is caused by different factors. Extrinsic discoloration might result from smoking, poor oral hygiene, and excessive coffee, tea, and red wine drinking. Intrinsic discoloration may result from aging, medication, or even excessive use of fluoride during childhood.

What is Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure used to make discolored teeth whiter and brighter. It helps remove stains and plaque you cannot remove with regular brushing.

There are two types of professional teeth whitening we offer in our Tampa offices: In-office and at-home teeth whitening. In-office teeth whitening is performed at a dental clinic and is usually completed in one visit.

The at-home teeth whitening kits we offer in the office are of much higher quality than the over-the-counter ones you’d find at your local pharmacy.

Please note that professional teeth whitening is different from the use of commercial or over-the-counter products.

Our professional teeth whitening services are performed by experienced and certified dentists and use high-quality products and high-end technologies.

Benefits of Teeth Whitening

There are several benefits of teeth whitening. Some of these benefits include the following:

Longer Lasting Results than Commercial Products

You probably have found many teeth-whitening products in your local drug stores and even tried some without success. However, dentist offices have access to more potent whitening agents than what you’d find in store, guaranteeing longer-lasting results.

Brighter, Whiter Teeth

Over-the-counter products may achieve reasonably fair results. Still, they need to meet the quality of results achieved through professional teeth whitening. The whitening agent used in professional teeth whitening is more concentrated, hence its ability to achieve a brighter, whiter smile. Professional teeth whitening also takes an hour on average to achieve excellent results compared to home treatments that require you to apply the gel for weeks regularly.

Potential to Improve Oral Health

Professional teeth whitening can improve your oral health since it involves the removal of plaque between the gum line. This reduces cavities and other gum diseases.

Quicker Teeth Whitening Time

Compared with home remedies, professional teeth whitening can change your smile within an hour. Therefore, you don’t have to wait weeks to see a change in your teeth like over-the-counter remedies.

Professional Whitening Has a Lower Risk of Tooth Sensitivity

You may experience temporary sensitivity during teeth whitening, but this occurs when the whitening ingredient enters the enamel and breaks down the discoloration. Unlike home remedies that contain high bleaching agent concentration, professional dentists use safe ingredients that cause minimal or no sensitivity. Therefore, fewer bleaching agents will come in contact with your gums and cause irritation.

You Can Customize Your Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening remedies found in stores may cause uneven whitening since they don’t use the same amount of whitening agent as the products used by professional dentists. At our offices in South Tampa, our team starts by matching your shade with what you want to achieve.

We then carefully apply the whitening agent to each tooth until they achieve your desired result.

Professional Teeth Whitening Services in Tampa, FL

You don’t have to live with stained teeth anymore. You can get your desired smile by visiting a dental clinic, getting a professional teeth whitening service, and coming out confident about your smile.

If you’re in Tampa, FL, or its surroundings, Dalton Dental is here to help you brighten your smile with teeth whitening treatment. We use state-of-the-art technology and the best products to ensure you get your desired results.

Your smile says a lot about you and plays a significant role in your overall confidence. Suppose you have lately been self-conscious when smiling or laughing, for example, due to a cracked tooth. In that case, cosmetic dentistry services may be the right thing for you.

But what does it entail? How is it different from your usual general dentistry?

In a nutshell, cosmetic dentistry is a branch of broader dentistry that primarily focuses on addressing aesthetic problems within your teeth and gums to improve their appearance and overall smile. Led by experienced, board-certified cosmetic dentist Dr. Dalton, the team at Dalton Dental has been offering quality cosmetic dentistry services in Tampa, FL, for over a decade of time. Learn more from this guide by Dalton Dental.

What are Some Examples of Cosmetic Dentistry?

The main goal of cosmetic dentistry is to restore your infectious smile and, ultimately, your confidence. Different procedures may be used to achieve desired results, depending on your specific condition and cosmetic goals. These may include:

Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin but strong shells (made from medical-grade ceramic) mainly used to solve a wide range of dental cosmetic flaws, including cracked, decayed, misaligned, discolored, or fragmented teeth. The good part is that they’re custom-made to naturally fit and flawlessly adhere to the appearance of your teeth.

Dental Crowns

Also known as dental caps, dental crowns are fitted similarly to veneers but are used to cover decayed, damaged, or severely discolored teeth. They’re also essential in preventing a weakened tooth from breaking.

Teeth Whitening

Discolored teeth can make you feel less confident in your smile. Teeth whitening is one of the most common cosmetic dentistry services that helps patients restore the white, shiny look they once had. If your teeth have lost their beautiful appearance due to foods, drinks, meds, or smoking, a visit or call to a cosmetic dentist is crucial.

Invisalign

Invisalign® presents a big step forward from traditional metal brackets. Invisalign® aligners are virtually transparent and highly effective at solving the problem of misaligned teeth. Their advantages over braces are endless. They are easily removable for eating/brushing/flossing, lowering the risk of developing further oral diseases like cavities, bacterial infections, or gum disease. Besides, they won’t compromise your smile as they are clear aligners.

Gum Rejuvenation Lift and Pinhole Gum Graft

Gum lifting (or gum contouring) removes excess gum tissue to ensure your smile is symmetrical and well-balanced. On the other hand, gum grafting is used to better your smile by filling unpleasant spaces left by receding gum tissue (which sometimes leads to exposed roots and a high risk of gum disease).

Who Can Benefit from Cosmetic Dentistry

If, for whatever reason(s), your smile is less than what you consider perfect, you may be an ideal candidate who can benefit from seeing a cosmetic dentist. For instance, if you have:

  • Chipped or cracked tooth
  • Decayed tooth
  • Discolored tooth
  • A missing tooth
  • Misshaped teeth
  • Misaligned tooth
  • Gum recession
  • Excess gum
  • Crooked teeth

An American Dental Association surveys show that people with the abovementioned tooth problems may avoid smiling or feel embarrassed about it. If this claim is familiar to you, cosmetic dentistry can benefit you.

Cosmetic Dentistry vs. General Dentistry

By now, we hope you have already figured out that a cosmetic dentist is a professional physician who focuses on enhancing your smile by offering treatments that boost the appearance of your teeth and gums (basically, practicing cosmetic dentistry). On the other hand, general dentistry deals with preventive oral care and treating dental health conditions like tooth cavities, gum diseases, and more.

If you’re frustrated with an aging appearance, you’re not alone. The aging process alters the appearance, causing wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and lost skin volume. Additionally, dental problems, including misaligned, chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, can age your look. At Dalton Dental, we can help you overcome these signs of aging and achieve a more youthful look with a range of advanced procedures.

Fillers and Botox

Injectable aesthetics treatments including fillers and Botox are among the most popular treatments for rejuvenating the face. Dermal fillers help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which plumps and hydrates the skin. There are many different dermal fillers available so that you can select the ideal option for your needs.

Botox is a time-tested cosmetic treatment that reduces facial lines and folds by preventing the muscle contractions that cause them. This safe, effective treatment can smooth out the skin and prevent facial lines from deepening.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a non-surgical treatment option for all types of skin imperfections. Procedures that use laser technology work by penetrating the skin and stimulating its natural healing process. The laser stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin, which help heal damaged skin and give the skin a healthy glow.

Microchanneling with Regenerative Growth Factors

Microchanneling is a non-invasive procedure that triggers the skin’s natural healing process by creating micro-injuries in the outer layer of the skin. This treatment produces a controlled response to the injuries, allowing your body to produce additional collagen and elastin.

At Dalton Dental, we combine the power of microchanneling with regenerative growth factors and stem cells for superior results. When applied directly to the skin during microchanneling treatment, the regenerative factors are more effectively absorbed and can support the skin’s healing process.

Aesthetic Precision Crowns and Veneers

Aesthetic precision veneers at Dalton Dental can resolve misaligned, chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth to give you a beautiful, youthful smile. Veneers are designed to fit over the tooth with a thin, custom-designed shell. Crowns, on the other hand, are ceramic caps that restore damaged or decayed teeth. In addition to offering protection against further tooth damage, crowns give the teeth a healthy, youthful appearance. Both of these dental fixtures can eliminate the appearance of tooth damage to rejuvenate your smile.

If you’re interested in achieving a rejuvenated look, contact Dalton Dental to learn more about our range of anti-aging procedures.

Tampa Dentist Tells All on Sexy ‘Million Dollar’ Smile Makeovers

Can you really put a price on self-esteem? Truth is, our confidence radiates from the inside, but it doesn’t mean we aren’t taking notice of what’s happening on the outside. After all, we all own a mirror. Sometimes, you may wish you didn’t.

According to one Forbes article, confidence plays a key role in determining your future.

“Their lack of confidence affects their ability to reach their full potential,” Bonnie Marcus, an author, said about women in the professional workspace.

As a pink-powered advocate for feeling sexy and comfortable in your skin, Dalton Dental also believes that it’s important to feel empowered with a beautiful smile. If you’re feeling self-conscious when you grin, it may be time for you to consult a qualified Tampa-area dentist who specializes in smile makeovers.

What Is a Smile Makeover, and Why Would Someone Need One?

When people think about achieving a different smile, closing a gap, or just hoping to have straighter teeth, they may not know the options. Some clients wonder if their choices only lie between Invisalign and veneers when in reality there are many ways to change a smile.

“At Dalton Dental, a smile makeover can mean veneers, crowns, or even gum contouring. It is changing a patient’s smile from what they don’t like to the dream smile they really want and deserve.  For some patients, it can be what looks like a subtle change to everyone else, but feels big to them,” Dalton Dental said.

If you’re seriously wondering how you can get a full smile makeover, click here for a free consult.

How Much Do Smile Makeovers Cost?

Self-confidence is invaluable, and so is having a gorgeous, sexy smile.

The first question we often hear is “How much do veneers cost, or what kind of financing is available for a smile makeover?” While we want to give you a straight answer, the truth really depends on the extent of the work you may need.

Dr. Dalton has performed thousands of cosmetic makeovers using veneers, crowns, gum contouring, and more. Certain patients may only need four teeth fixed, while others may want a full smile makeover which can cost much more.

“It all depends on the patient and what look they are trying to achieve. It can be a few thousand to upwards of $25,000 or more. During a free consultation, we look at a patient’s smile, as well as the health of the mouth and teeth. So often, a smile makeover is not just about the looks, but also about correcting bite issues and maintaining or improving dental health,” Dalton Dental said.

Even though certain cosmetic procedures, including smile makeovers, can be beneficial for an improved ability to chew, fix or cover up chips, and of course, a boost of confidence, the cost usually falls on the patient. This is because insurance companies do not see it as necessary work.

Financing options are always available including cash, credit cards, and checks as well as financing through

What Is Better:  Veneers or Crowns?

So you’ve decided to go ahead and get a smile makeover in Florida. This is so exciting! You’re on your way to a sexier, more self-confident you. Congratulations!

If you’ve found a qualified Tampa Dentist, the next step is to decide which method is a better fit for your smile. Your doctor will likely suggest the most effective product to use to achieve what you’re looking for.

According to Healthline, both veneers and crowns can improve the look and function of your teeth. The main difference between the two is that a veneer covers the front of your tooth, while a crown is fitted around a tooth that is ground down.

Take a look at the difference between these two smile makeovers below.

One before and after is the result of veneers; the other is a crown makeover.

Can you tell which image is which?

Smile Makeovers with Veneers: Are They Worth It?

Dalton Dental uses safe, lab-created, porcelain veneers. These high-quality veneers are made without metal, giving a super organic and gorgeous look. These are made to be permanent, but their longevity depends on how well a person takes care of his/her teeth.

You may have heard others talk about ‘composite veneers’ which are handcrafted in the office with the same material Dalton Dental uses for fillings. These are tooth-colored but are extremely limited when it comes to the range of colors offered. Porcelain veneers have the ability to be stained to an exact match at our dental labs.

Veneers can last a long time. On average, veneers can go anywhere from 10-20 years before needing to be replaced. Sometimes, it can be even longer when they are well-cared for. Habits like grinding or clenching also can play a role in how long the veneers last.

While it’s extremely rare, if a dentist misapplies a veneer, it can fall off. If this happens, you’ll want to call the best cosmetic dentist near you right away.

Changing Your Smile with Crowns: Is it Safe?

While you may not be able to tell the difference just by looking at someone’s smile, you should know that crowns and veneers are not the same.

If you’ve ever had a cracked or broken tooth, you may be familiar with a crown. They are often used to permanently cover a tooth and protect it from further decay and/or wear and tear.

Crowns can also be used to change the appearance of a smile, affecting the overall look of your face.

While the process may sound painful, the actual procedure is not. A board-certified dentist will grind down the natural tooth to a certain degree to enable a snug fit for the man-made tooth. The entire process is completely safe.

As with veneers, Dalton Dental uses lab-created crowns made of full porcelain zirconia, without metal. This type of crown is made to last, is hypoallergenic, and looks beautiful.  It can be shaded to match natural teeth and the patient’s desired tooth color.  Metal crowns or crowns with metal bases can cause inflammation of the tissue in the mouth as they almost always contain some nickel and other alloy metals that are not ideal in the mouth.  They also are more difficult to match the shade and less natural-looking.

Porcelain crowns are crafted to last up to 20 years and in some cases, longer. With routine dental care, both veneers and crowns should last a long time, and a qualified dentist will be able to determine when they should be replaced, if necessary.

There are risks of crowns coming loose, falling off, or cavities forming under the crown. This is very rare and is usually due to poor dentistry or a patient’s low-quality of care for his/her teeth.

Same-Day Game-Changer

It’s a question asked over and over again: How long does a smile makeover take?

Prepare to be shocked — just a few hours, not days, not months, hours.

That’s right.

You can walk into Dalton Dental in the morning and then right out onto the Tampa streets or to Downtown Ybor City and have an afternoon on the town with a brand new smile in a matter of a few hours.

The smile makeover takes just one day. This is, of course, after your initial free consultation and images have been taken to assess what your smile makeover options are. You’ll have to wait for the lab to create your new smile as well

How Do I Care for My New Smile?

Stop staring at yourself in the mirror! No, really keep staring, you’re hot! What do your new veneers or crowns look like? What do they feel like?

Congratulations on your brand new smile! How do you feel? We hope you feel extra confident, beautiful, and most importantly, you!

Depending on if you have any gum contouring or not, you will at least be sore.

Even with routine dental procedures, side effects usually include mild discomfort for a few days.

We highly suggest starting routine visits with your dentist for check-ups, cleaning and flossing daily, and using a soft bristle brush. You should also avoid biting off hard items like carrots or apples as this force can loosen veneers. Regular check-ups are very important to check the margins and health of the teeth under veneers or crowns.
